About VetScouter

A DC/NoVA/MD review site built by a pet owner who got tired of guessing.

Why I made VetScouter

VetScouter founder

I built VetScouter after one too many vet visits that left me more anxious walking out than walking in.

I'm based in Northern Virginia. For years I had the same experience every time I needed a new vet: pick based on a Google star count and a handful of reviews that told me almost nothing useful, then sit in the waiting room hoping I'd made the right call. Usually I'd find out I hadn't: unexpected bills, explanations that didn't land, the feeling of being managed rather than actually helped.

What I kept looking for and never finding was a place where pet owners described what actually happened in the exam room. Not just a number. The real stuff: how the vet communicated, whether costs were a surprise, how they handled a nervous dog, whether they'd go back. The kind of thing you'd ask a friend who'd been there before you.

So I built it. It covers DC, Northern Virginia, and Maryland. Not because I couldn't make it national, but because I think local context matters and I'd rather do one region well.

It's independent, unsponsored, and I intend to keep it that way.

Here's what you can do with VetScouter

Three core functions, none of them complicated.

1. Search

Search by clinic name, city, ZIP code, or specialty. Filter to show only practices accepting new patients.

2. Read reviews

Every review is from a pet owner who's actually been there. Read about wait times, bedside manner, how they handle anxious animals, how they explain things, and what the bill looked like. The stuff star ratings don't tell you.

3. Pay it forward

After your visit, leave a review. Positive or critical, both are useful. Your experience, however ordinary it feels, is exactly what someone else is searching for.

How I keep it honest

Reviews are only useful if you can trust them. Here's what I do to protect that.
